Gregory Poole is currently looking for Marine Diesel & Gas Technicians for the following areas: Wanchese, NC / Beaufort, NC / Wilmington, NC / South Port, NC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Gas Technician
- Perform repairs and maintenance of the basic outboard marine engine.
- The ability to rebuild two stroke outboard engines and the inspection/ repair of these engines.
- Maintenance and repair of the basic engine block of a four stroke cycle inboard marine engine including disassembly, inspection, maintenance/repair, and reassembly.
- Service fuel injection systems, carburetors, fuel tanks, etc. in marine engines.
- Service lubrication systems used on four stroke and two stroke marine engines including types of lubrication systems, lubricants, service and maintenance of the systems.
- Repair cooling systems for marine engines including open-style and: Inboard Gasoline Engines.
- Disassembly, maintenance, repair, and reassembly/installations of major types of transmissions, commonly associated with inboard/outboard marine engines.
- Perform repairs of out drive units associated with inboard marine engines including components, functions, out drive steering, bellows, shifting systems, alignment, and repair.
- Installation and repair of accessories commonly found on a pleasure craft including bilge pumps, ventilation systems, horns, instruments, lights, and other accessories.
- Minor repair of hull and structure damage.
- Rigging and maintenance of trailers used to transport a pleasure craft including rigging, wheel bearings, lighting and positioning boats.
- Repair electrical systems associated with marine engines including charging circuits, starting circuits, and ignition circuits.
- Perform tune-up and diagnosis of problems associated with a variety of marine engines including operation of test equipment, system diagnostics, and tune-up procedures.
- Perform repairs on propellers, steering mechanisms, marine plumbing, and other boat equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Diesel Technician
• Trouble shooting and repair inboard marine diesel engine.
• Engine disassembly, inspection, maintenance/repair, and reassembly.
• Maintenance and service of fuel tanks, pumps, filters, and fuel injection systems used in marine
engines.
• Maintenance of lubrication systems used on four stroke and two stroke marine diesel engines.
• Maintenance of cooling systems for marine diesel engines.
• Dis assembly, maintenance, repair, and reassembly/installations of the three major types of
transmissions, commonly associated with inboard marine engines.
• Perform engine shaft alignments
• Tune-up and diagnosis of problems associated with a variety of marine diesel engines including
operation of test equipment, system diagnostics, and tune-up procedures
• Engine electrical control systems trouble shooting and repair.
• Trouble shoot and repair engine and or vessel performance issues.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Must have a high school education or GED.
Work Experience: Gas Technician
Six years of experience with inboard/outboard gas engines. Must be proficient in at least two systems (i.e. Inboard/outboard/stern drives, transmissions, engines, hydraulics, etc.) for numerous model lines. CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN: Preferred.
Work Experience: Diesel Technician
Six years of experience with at least four years of experience with Cat equipment. Fully understands all equipment systems (i.e. engines, hydraulics, electrical, sub-electrical, transmissions, etc.) for almost all equipment model lines.
Physical:
Marine mechanics may work outdoors at docks or marinas, as well as in all weather conditions, when making repairs aboard boats. They may work in cramped or awkward positions to reach a boat’s engine. Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend and climb beside, onto and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs. Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports. Must be able to routinely and physically lift/position various parts to perform repairs/service and manually handle parts up to 70 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoist for heavier parts.
Other:
Will work remotely with rare trips to dispatching office. Must be able to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders. Must have cognitive reasoning and problem solving skills to apply knowledge, written information and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems. Should have exposure to P.C. base equipment and parts information; Can work independently with minimal supervision.
Field Activity- Must be able to daily operate a service vehicle and drive for extended periods to reach customer’s locations. Must be able to effectively communicate using telephones to receive instructions and to provide service information.
Additional: Field activities require a valid state drivers license (obtain within 30 days of hire a valid license within the state of GPEC’s operation) AND posses a safe driving record, as outlined in our GPEC Motor Vehicle Policy. Some vehicles may require having or obtaining a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
